Second-year WR Saalim Hakim has been turning heads with his speed in Saints OTAs.
A 2012 UDFA out of the UFL, Hakim spent the final two games of the season on New Orleans’ active roster. He is the (far) younger brother of former NFLer Az-Zahir Hakim. “He can run — he can really run,” coach Sean Payton said. S Malcolm Jenkins says Hakim has another gear. “The defensive backs learned that right away last year when he got here.” Hakim played little high school or college ball, but with wheels that are rumored to be in the 4.2s, he should get a long look in training camp.

Saints promoted WR Saalim Hakim from their practice squad.
The younger brother of Az Hakim from the Greatest Show on Turf Rams, Saalim is relatively new to football after concentrating on soccer until late in his high school career. He’s been clocked as fast as 4.31 in the forty, which is why 18 NFL teams tried to sign him once he became eligible this year after playing for the UFL’s Las Vegas Locomotives in 2011. Hakim is an intriguing developmental project.

Jets promoted WR Saalim Hakim from their practice squad.
The 2012 UDFA out of Tarleton State spent time on the Saints’ active roster late last year. He’s taking Stephen Hill’s place on the 53-man roster.

Coach Rex Ryan named Saalim Hakim the Jets’ kickoff primary returner.
Rookie Jalen Saunders will presumably return punts. A Tarleton State alum, Hakim clocked forty times in the 4.2s at his 2012 Pro Day. 24 years old, Saalim is the younger brother of former Rams star Az-Zahir Hakim.
