Raiders waived WR Sam McGuffie, C Andrew Robiskie, DB Cory Nelms, DT Myles Wade, WR Tray Session, FB Jon Hoese, RB Deonte Williams, and LB Eric Harper.
These are the Raiders’ first cuts. Once a monster recruit at Michigan, McGuffie turned in a disappointing college career after transferring to Rice. He made no waves in training camp, but could perhaps have a future in the CFL.
  • FA Wide Receiver #39
Raiders signed Rice WR Sam McGuffie.
McGuffie (5-foot-10 1/4, 201) transferred from Michigan after the Rich Rodriguez debacle and wound up converting from tailback to slot receiver. He caught 54 passes for 603 yards (11.2 YPR) and five touchdowns as a senior. A straight-line speedster with an extensive track background, McGuffie ran a 4.36 forty with a 1.49 ten-yard split and 11-foot-2 broad jump at the Owls’ Pro Day. McGuffie has a chance to be a space weapon on offense with special teams value.
  • FA Wide Receiver #39
Patriots waived WR/RB Sam McGuffie, LB Taylor Reed, and DL Cory Grissom.
They were all end-of-the-roster talents. McGuffie was once a young college star at Michigan, but transferred to Rice after Rich Rodriguez left Ann Arbor, and went undrafted last April. He runs in the 4.3s at 5-foot-10, 201.
