Scott Van Slyke has been waived by the Doosan Bears of the Korea Baseball Organization.
Van Slyke batted just .128 with one home run and four RBI in 12 games after signing with the Seoul-based club in late June. “We’re not in a situation to use Van Slyke,” Bears manager Kim Tae-hyung told Yonhap News. “Foreign players have power, and they can collect 20 home runs if they adjust to the league. But the chances are always 50-50.” The 32-year-old Van Slyke opened the 2018 season with the Marlins’ Triple-A team.
  • AZ Outfield
Juan Rivera could miss two months with a ruptured left hamstring tendon.
The best-case scenario is that Rivera will be able to return shortly after he’s reevaluated in two weeks, but surgery could sideline him for 6-8 weeks. Scott Van Slyke was called up to replace him on the active roster, but Bobby Abreu and Tony Gwynn, Jr. figure to see most of the playing time in left field.
  • INT Outfield #5
Dodgers recalled OF-1B Scott Van Slyke from Triple-A Albuquerque.
The son of former outfielder Andy Van Slyke, Scott was hitting .336 with eight homers and 25 RBI at Albuquerque. He should see some time in left field with Juan Rivera out, and he could also occasionally spell James Loney at first base against left-handers.
  • INT Outfield #5
Dodgers purchased the contract of 1B-OF Scott Van Slyke from Double-A Chattanooga.
The move keeps the 24-year-old from becoming a minor league free agent. The son of former major leaguer Andy Van Slyke batted .348/.427/.595 with 20 homers, 92 RBI and a 1.022 OPS over 529 plate appearances this season at the Double-A level.
  • INT Outfield #5
Pinch-hitter Scott Van Slyke hit a three-run homer off Marc Rzepczynski on Sunday to propel the Dodgers to a 6-5 win over the Cardinals.
It was the first big-league homer for Van Slyke, who is 3-for-9 since being called up on May 9. He’s started just one game, but he already has six RBI off the bench.
  • INT Outfield #5
Scott Van Slyke is getting his first major league start on Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks.
Van Slyke will play right field and bat fifth against Arizona left-hander Wade Miley. The 25-year-old has two hits and three RBI in three major league plate appearances and was rocking a 1.034 OPS in 32 games at Triple-A Albuquerque before his callup late last week. He may be worth a grab in NL-only or deeper mixed fantasy leagues while Matt Kemp recovers from a hamstring strain.
  • INT Outfield #5
Dodgers optioned OF/1B Scott Van Slyke to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Van Slyke was the other player sent out to make room for Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier on the active roster. The 25-year-old is hitting just .167 (9-for-54) with two homers and seven RBI in 27 games at the major league level this year.
  • INT 1st Baseman #18
James Loney is not in Thursday’s lineup against the Brewers.
This is the first time Loney has been benched against a right-handed starter this season. Scott Van Slyke will make the start at first base Thursday and bat seventh against right-hander Zack Greinke.
  • INT Outfield #5
Scott Van Slyke will bat cleanup and play left field Monday night against the Diamondbacks.
It doesn’t take long to get in the good graces of Dodgers manager Don Mattingly, as Van Slyke is being rewarded for hitting the go-ahead three-run homer in a win over the Cardinals on Sunday. Bobby Abreu will take a seat.
  • INT Outfield #5
Dodgers recalled OF-1B Scott Van Slyke from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Van Slyke batted .194 (6-for-31) with one home runs and six RBI during his first stint in the majors earlier this season. He’ll provide some versatility with Andre Ethier (oblique) sidelined.
