Gonzalez holds a 3.07 ERA and 34/8 K/BB ratio over 44 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season. He’ll work in middle relief.

The move was made Thursday to clear a roster spot for new outfielder Michael Saunders. Gonzalez posted a rough 5.60 ERA in 35 1/3 innings of relief last season for the Phillies, though it came with a decent 34/7 K/BB ratio. The 24-year-old right-hander will probably draw interest on waivers.

Gonzalez was designated for assignment last week after the Michael Saunders signing. The 24-year-old has a solid 62/14 K/BB ratio over 66 innings in the majors, but he owns a rough 6.68 ERA in 34 appearances. He’ll look for better luck with his new team.

He allowed one hit and two walks without striking out a batter. He pitched 35 1/3 innings with a 5.60 ERA as a reliever with the Phillies in 2016. Even though he worked as a starter today he is likely to pitch out of the Marlins’ bullpen when the regular season rolls around.

Gonzalez posted a 3.55 ERA in two starts and five relief appearances this spring in Grapefruit League play. It’s not clear yet whether he’s going to work out of the bullpen or rotation for the New Orleans Baby Cakes.

He’ll serve as the 26th man in Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Phillies. Gonzalez has been in Triple-A all year while posting a 4.28 ERA over five starts and 26 relief appearances.

Gonzalez served as the 26th man for the Marlins in Tuesday’s split doubleheader against the Phillies, though the 24-year-old right-hander did not appear in either game. He has a 5.93 ERA this season in Triple-A.

The Phils have now lost 12 of 15 games. Gonzalez basically pitched to the 7.07 ERA its rotation put up in the previous 14 and Philly starters have now failed to complete six innings 10 times out of 15. Gonzalez, the owner of a 7.92 ERA, has never pulled off the six-inning trick. The rookie right-hander returned to the rotation this evening with Kevin Correia designated for assignment Tuesday to make room. With the Phils not playing for anything, they mine as well stick with the 22-year-old.
