The sixth-rounder out of Montana has been limited to special teams duty this year, recording eight tackles in 15 games. The injury will end his season. He’ll be back in training camp to battle for a job in 2011. As Mac’s Football Blog points out, a move to put Schillinger on I.R. will be the Falcons’ first transaction since September 21.

The rookie suffered the injury in Monday’s loss to the Saints. Schillinger has been limited to special teams duty this year, making eight tackles.

Schillinger was productive at Montana, racking up 10 interceptions and 19 passes defensed in 57 games while also boasting gaudy tackle numbers. He’ll battle for a roster spot as a backup safety and special teamer.

Schillinger was still sporting a noticeable limp at recent players-only workouts. Last year’s sixth-rounder, Schillinger was primarily limited to special teams prior to the injury. If he’s not 100 percent by camp, he could end up on PUP.
