Here is everything you need to know about AFCON 2025, where star players competing in leagues around the world headed to Africa to represent their nations.

Which Premier League players were at AFCON?

Premier League stars Mohamed Salah, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, Ismaila Sarr, Carlos Baleba, Dango Ouattara, Iliman Ndiaye, Pape Matar Sarr, Idrissa Gueye, Noussair Mazraoui, Alex Iwobi and Omar Marmoush were among the big names for the tournament.

The tournament coincided with the hectic festive period for their club teams, so players missed as many as six Premier League games each.

'Not difficult' for Mbeumo to represent Cameroon
Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo joins Mary Omatiga to discuss meeting the legendary Samuel Eto'o, why he chose to play for Cameroon nationally, how his family helped balance his French and Cameroonian roots and more.

Who were the favorites?

Reigning champions Ivory Coast were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage, while hosts Morocco have been the heavy favorite after their run to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup. Captain Achraf Hakimi came back from injury just in time and the superstar right back led Morocco to the final but just short of a first AFCON title since 1976 and just their second in history.

And so Senegal laid claim to their second title in history, both coming this century under the leadership of Sadio Mane.

Gueye: Soccer brings happiness, peace to Senegal
Everton's Idrissa Gueye sits down with Mary Omatiga to talk about growing up in Senegal, watching the 2002 World Cup as a child, representing his country, grieving the loss of his father, raising his kids and more.
