Yaya Toure’s stunning blast was one of a trio of goals for the Ivory Coast, as Les Elephants moved to within a win of their first Africa Cup of Nations title since 1992 with a 3-1 win over DR Congo on Wednesday.
Yaya smashed a ball home in the 20th minute with near-max velocity to make it 1-0, but Dieumerci Mbokani converted a penalty two minutes later, taking advantage of an Eric Bailly (Villarreal) handball.

Alas, there would be no major upset on Wednesday, as Wilfried Bony found Gervinho to restore the Ivory Coast’s lead before halftime. Then Wilfried Kanon put home a Serge Aurier rebound to make it 3-1 in the 68th minute.
The Ivory Coast now awaits the winner of Thursday’s semifinal between Equatorial Guinea and Ghana. The final is Sunday.
