Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has certainly enjoyed himself over Premier League competition as of late, as the Toons extended their win streak to five games with a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.

Now at fifth in the league standings, it would appear Pardew should have no worries on hand, but adversity struck when midfielder Ryan Taylor, making his return to the pitch after dealing with torn anterior cruciate ligaments for 32 months, caved to another leg injury.

He left the field weeping, and it was an emotional time for the entire squad. In the end, all hope has been directed toward a healthy recuperation for the 30-year-old. And even though a possibility of a serious leg ailment does exist, Taylor is still awaiting a scan to sort out the true damage.

“We are sweating with Ryan. Fortunately, his surgeon was here in the stands today, he had come to watch from America, so he’s gone with him to hospital with our doctor, and we are just fingers-crossed on that scan.

“He feels uncomfortable with his knee, so the win is sort of tinged with sadness because he is a person and a personality who just not deserve the trauma he has had already, let alone another trauma. I’m sure all our fans and certainly all the squad and the staff are just thinking about him at the moment.”

Taylor has made 79 appearances and scored six goals for United since he began his career at the club in 2009. At the international level, he was capped four times in 2005 for England’s U-21 crew.
