The Colorado Rapids man crossed a hard ball into the mix, and Dempsey rose to bury a header past Alexander Dominguez.
John Brooks has picked up where he left off against Paraguay, with decisive tackles and 50/50 wins, while Wood has been a dynamic part of the attack.
Ale Bedoya was stopped by Dominguez on the doorstep in the 42nd minute, and Brad Guzan did the same on a streaking Michael Arroyo in stoppage time.
