After a shaky start to the season, many thought Bafetimbi Gomis’ stay in Swansea would be short-lived.
But after his brace against Hull City brought the Swans to within one point of the club’s best ever total in the Premier League, the French striker is looking like the future of the Swansea attack.

After coming to the Liberty Stadium in June from French-side Lyon, Gomis failed to make an impact as he sat on the bench behind Wilfried Bony.
When Bony was sold to Manchester City during the January transfer window, Gomis was thrust into a starting role as the main target for Garry Monk’s side.
Gomis raised some eyebrows with comments complaining about his playing time in South Wales, leading many to believe he could be on his way out of the Premier League just a few months into his stint at Swansea.

Fast-forward two months and the French striker has scored in consecutive games for the Swans, including a brace in their 3-1 win over Hull City on Saturday. After the match, manager Garry Monk applauded Gomis’ recent form, and said he has no doubts the striker will continue to provide for the club.I can only see more goals for Bafe coming. This is the reason why I brought him in - he can score goals in the Premier League.
Goals always breed confidence in strikers. I had no problem at all even when he wasn’t scoring at the start of the season.
He has the quality, which I knew all along. It’s really pleasing to see him score these goals.
He’s played in the Champions League and scored 20-plus goals nearly every season in his career. He’s a top-class striker and he scores different types of goals. You saw that from his finishes [against Hull] and the finishes he’s done before.”
After earning the win against Hull City, Swansea sit eighth on the table with 46 points. The club’s best ever campaign in the Premier League came in the 2011-12 season, when they finished with 47 points. With seven matches remaining, Garry Monk’s side has the opportunity to write a new chapter in the history of the club.

For Gomis, his recent run of form is what many supporters hope to expect all year long next season. Despite his goals as of late, the Frenchman has only scored eight times in all competitions for Swansea after three straight 20+ goal seasons for Lyon.
