Jermaine Jones has been handed a six-match suspension from Major League Soccer for his actions in New England’s playoff loss to D.C. United.
Jones rushed at referee Mark Geiger to appeal a penalty kick that was not called, receiving a yellow card for his actions. He then pushed Geiger and was sent off.

The New England midfielder appealed the suspension, but it was upheld by MLS Commissioner Don Garber, along with a fine for an undisclosed amount.
Because the the action was considered “referee assault,” Jones will also be unable to play for the United States’ national team during his suspension.
The USMNT is scheduled to play Guatemala in two World Cup qualifiers in March of 2016. If Jurgen Klinsmann wanted to, he would be unable to select Jones for those matches.
