Four of the deaths were in the city of Houston, with others coming throughout Texas, Oklahoma and northern Mexico.

With the tragedy that has struck Texas, sports have taken a backseat.

Manchester City was scheduled to face the Houston Dynamo at the BBVA Compass Stadium on Thursday, but that friendly is now in doubt due to the weather.

City will take on Toronto FC tonight in Toronto, and was scheduled to fly out to Houston after the match to face the Dynamo.

Dynamo manager Owen Coyle said he hoped the match would be able to take place, but acknowledged there were more important things than a friendly soccer match.

Prior to last night it had been very nice but then it was incredible. I think normally in the month of May five inches of rain falls but there was 10 inches in six hours last night so the whole city has been very badly affected by it. Everybody is trying to make the best of a difficult situation.

A lot of the roads have looked like rivers. We normally start training at 10am and we had to put that back to 2pm to try and allow the players get into training. But in adversity people stick together and work ever so hard to put things right.

Everybody at the club and in the city are desperate to see the elite of Manchester City and what we were doing was putting in a new pitch for them but the weather has curtailed that a little.”

Hundreds of fans were forced to stay overnight at the Toyota Center following the Houston Rockets NBA playoff game on Monday night due to the storms.

Houston is the United States’ fourth most populated city. At this time, the main focus is far from football.
