The 1986 Mets. The 1994 Rangers. The 2009 Yankees. The 2015 USWNT?

After winning the World Cup last night in Vancouver, the United States women could be the next team honored with a parade in Manhattan.

Manhattan borough president Gale Brewer has started an online petition to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio to make Jill Ellis’ side the first women’s team to cruise down the Canyon of Heroes.
From NBC 4 New York:

The New York City Mayor’s Office congratulated the team for its “tremendous achievement,” and told NBC 4 New York it is exploring logistics and “talking with the team and other partners about a possible ticker-tape parade.”

Tradition calls for a parade when a New York sports team wins a championship, but some exceptions have been made. Athletes from the 1984 Olympics were honored with one, as were astronauts from the Space Shuttle Discovery mission in 1998.

The last time a parade was held in the Canyon of Heroes was after the New York Giants victory in Super Bowl XLVI in 2012.
