QPR held off Leicester City at Loftus Road on Saturday to clinch a crucial three points with a breathtaking 3-2 victory.

The R’s went behind early on through Esteban Cambiasso’s goal but were 2-1 up at the break thanks to an own goal and Leroy Fer’s effort. However the Foxes came racing back as Jeffrey Schlupp hammered home to make it 2-2.

Both teams had numerous chances to go ahead, but Charlie Austin was the hero as he scored his seventh goal of the season to move QPR off the bottom of the standings.

With the win Harry Redknapp’s men now have 11 points and sit in 18th, while Leicester are in freefall as they sit in last place with no wins in eight.

Leicester raced into an early lead at Loftus through Cambiasso’s opener as the Foxes broke their scoreless streak at 504 minutes. However that strike got QPR going and they should have been level when Leroy Fer somehow missed from close range when tried to set up Austin.

Both teams went at it after that opening goal and QPR were level in the 37th minute as central defender Steven Caulker ran free on the left and his innocuous cross was comically knocked into his own goal by Leicester’s skipper Morgan.

But just after that, Jamie Vardy went clean through but Rob Green produced a fine stop and just before half time QPR took the lead. A deep cross fro Joey Barton on the right found Austin and his header could only be parried away by Kasper Schmeichel and Fer pounced to smash home and make it 2-1.

At the start of the second half Vardy hit the crossbar with a glancing header and put an effort into the side-netting after a quick free kick from Cambiasso. The Foxes continued to push for an equalizer, as QPR sat back and it arrived in the 67th minute via Schlupp. A shot on the edge of the box broke to Schlupp and he hammered in an unstoppable effort to make it 2-2.

Leicester almost went 3-2 up after that as QPR somehow cleared the ball following an almighty goalmouth scramble. Then at the other from a corner Fer had a header superbly saved by Schmeichel, then from the resulting set piece QPR went back ahead as Austin headed home with the games 41st effort.

Late on Leicester threw the kitchen sink at QPR but their best chance came via Matty James, who put his effort just over. The R’s held on to move off the bottom, after a pulsating clash in west London.
