Gerard Deulofeu returns to Everton on a permanent deal
Reports all over Spain are claiming Spanish winger Gerard Deulofeu will return to Everton on an $8 million permanent transfer from Barcelona, with the La Liga giants retaining a buy-back clause in the deal.
The 21-year-old Spaniard was impressive in short spurts during his loan spell at Goodison Park two seasons ago, but spent most of last year on the bench during another season-long loan Sevilla.
Deulofeu made 25 Premier League appearances during his previous Everton loan spell, but only nine of those were starts, scoring three goals and assisting four more. Last year with Sevilla, he started the season with high expectations, earning six starts in the club’s first 13 league matches, but lost his spot in the lineup, and finished the year with just 28 total minutes in one appearance across the club’s final 14 matches.
The BBC is reporting that Deulofeu has agreed to personal terms with Everton and that the two clubs are very close to agreeing on a deal, with Barcelona insisting on a buy-back option should he become the star everyone expected him to become a few years ago. The Liverpool Echo has also made the same claims, reporting that Deulofeu’s personal terms were agreed to back on Monday.
The signing would be the second of the summer for Roberto Martinez, who also brought in Tom Cleverley from Manchester United.
UPDATE: Everton have confirmed the capture of Deulofeu.
