Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy is a huge backer of his national football team, and sent them an encouraging video message on the eve of their Euro 2016

Placed in a group with Germany, Poland, and Ukraine, Northern Ireland isn’t expected to make too much noise in France.

But the small side is raring to go, and has the support from four-time major champion McIlroy, who’s helped keep NI on the sporting map.

From the BBC:

“Coming home as a major champion was one of the proudest moments of my career so far,” said McIlroy, 27.

“It’s an honour to represent Northern Ireland around the world - and to put our wee country on the sporting map.

“Tomorrow you will write the next chapter in our long and famous sporting story.

“When you walk out at that stadium in Nice, take a moment to think about our sporting icons, what they achieved, and how this is your chance to take your place alongside them.”

Anyone tabbing Northern Ireland to advance to the knockout rounds, even as a third place side?
