Sadio Mane will not have to serve a three-match ban after being sent off in Southampton’s win at Stoke City over the weekend.

Mane was shown a straight red late in the match for what was deemed a high elbow on Erik Pieters, although replays showed he did not lead with his arm. Saints won the appeal, making Mane available for their next match against Liverpool.

Mane was a standout player for Southampton last season, scoring ten goals in his first year in the Premier League. His form led to links with top clubs from Manchester United to Bayern Munich, although Saints were unwilling to sell.

However, the Senegalese winger has hit a bit of a sophomore slump with just three goals on the year, his last coming all the way back in October.

Southampton sit seventh on the table with eight matches to play, and Mane will have to find his form as Ronald Koeman’s men push for a spot in Europe for a second consecutive season.
