Lost beneath Luis Suarez’s continued denial of his alleged racist abuse of Patrice Evra was a series of quotes in which the electric Liverpool forward admitted he worries about picking up an injury ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
Suarez, 27, admitted on a Uruguayan radio show that the injuries to Colombian star Radamel Falcao and English attacker Theo Walcott have him concerned over what could happen to him as a Red in the next couple months.“The truth is that I am scared of what happened to Falcao and Walcott. But you live in the present and you always give your best for your club - you can’t be thinking about that all the time.
“It is a unique opportunity and we all want to be there, but I prefer to focus my mind on the English league. The moment to think about the national team will arrive later.”
It’s hardly going to affect him during the course of a match, although the old American football maxim that if you think you’re going to get hurt, you’re much more likely to get hurt will spring to the mind of some. In any event, you can’t fault Suarez for lack of honesty or abiding by tired sports cliches. He’s as close to one of a kind as you’ll find.
