The big Belgian center back has missed so much time due to injuries over the last few years, we certainly understand if you’ve found yourself wondering. After making just 14 Premier League appearances last season, Kompany finally returned to the first team, now under Pep Guardiola’s direction, for Wednesday’s EFL Cup victory over Swansea City.
Everything seemed to have gone off without a hitch for Kompany, until he made a beeline for the locker room during second-half stoppage time, unbeknownst to Guardiola. The verdict: groin injury.

A few days later, all the club has said is that Kompany is undergoing treatment on the injury, and that a course for his return is not yet known. A timetable all too familiar in the case of Kompany, though one promising tidbit was also passed along: the latest injury is not related to last season’s calf injury, which was the main culprit for all those games he missed.
