On the flip side, a win for the hosts would hoist them level with eighth-place Swansea.
Simon Mignolet is back between the sticks for Liverpool, who will rely on Raheem Sterling up top and carry three strikers on the bench in Fabio Borini, Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lamber.
Swansea will start Wilfried Bony and “lazy” Jonjo Shelvey.
