Wednesday’s Transfer Rumor Roundup: Allen to Manchester United? Song to Spurs?

Olympics Day -1 - Men's Football - Great Britain v Senegal

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen is a shock target for Manchester United according to the Daily Star. The Welshman is said to be available for $30 million and Louis van Gaal wants the pint-sized midfielder to play alongside the likes of Ander Herrera and Juan Mata in the engine room. Inevitably any player who joins United from Liverpool will be scrutinized but that aside, Allen is a quality player. He hasn’t got anywhere near the minutes he would have hoped for since his big money move from Swansea City back in 2013 and the Reds may let him leave for United if the price is right.

Former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song could be set for a move back to North London, but not with the Gunners. Tottenham Hotspur have jumped to the top of the queue for Song as the 26-year-old Cameroonian may be available on a season-long loan deal from Barcelona. Spurs are in the market for a holding midfielder, as Morgan Schniderlin is their top target but Southampton aren’t willing to sell. According to various reports Song would cost nothing on loan as he’s fallen out of favor at the Nou Camp under new boss Luis Enrique.

Spurs are also edging closer to signing Federico Fazio from Sevilla, as the central defender could arrive for $14 million according to the Daily Telegraph. Spurs offloaded Michael Dawson to Hull City for a similar fee on Tuesday and Mauricio Pochettino is eager to bring in some more competition to battle with Younes Kaboul, Jan Vertonghen and Vlad Chiriches for the central defensive position. Fazio, 27, hails from Argentina and has spent the past seven seasons in La Liga with Sevilla.

Queens Park Rangers are looking at bringing in Mohamed Diame from West Ham according to the Daily Mirror. Diame, 27, is available to leave the Hammers after falling out of favor at Upton Park. Harry Redknapp is said to be eager for more strength in the midfield and the towering Senegalese international is sure to provide just that. Diame arrived at West Ham in 2012 and has scored seven goals in 77 appearances in East London.

AC Milan are apparently in for Fernando Torres, but they are annoyed with waiting for the Chelsea striker to make up his mind. If Torres continues to stall then Milan will move for Tottenham’s Roberto Soldado according to this report. The 29-year-old Spanish striker had a tough first season at White Hart Lane and despite looking more comfortable this season so far under Pochettino, the former Valencia star could be on his way to the San Siro.
