Former Vanderbilt senior S Tae Daley transferred to Virginia Tech.
Daley (6'2/202) was slated to enter his third season as a starter at strong safety for the Commodores, but has decided to opt out and pursue his options elsewhere instead. Last year he ranked third on the team in tackles with 57 while also recording three interceptions and two PBU in nine games. Vanderbilt’s defense was quite porous in 2019 as they allowed 31.8 PPG on the way to a three-win season. He will now battle for playing time on a Virginia Tech secondary that allowed 266 passing yards per game and 32.1 PPG in 2020.

  • Vanderbilt freshman S Tae Daley and redshirt freshman CB Frank Coppet were shot on Monday after attempting to take back a stolen cell phone.
Daley was shot in the leg, while Coppet was hit in the arm. Both suffered non-critical injuries. Daley and Coppet were attempting to get teammate Donaven Tennyson’s stolen cell phone back through a scheme that involved creating a fake profile to set up a meeting. Clearly, that meeting went south. Vanderbilt has yet to release a timeline for their recoveries.
  • Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason indefinitely suspended freshman S Tae Daley.
Daley is being punished for his involvement in an incident that resulted in him suffering a noncritical gunshot wound to the leg. He and fellow defensive back Frank Coppet botched an ill-conceived plan on Monday night to recover wide receiver Donaven Tennyson’s stolen cellphone.
