Tyrese Maxey is questionable for Friday’s matchup with the Hawks due to an illness.
Maxey played through illness Wednesday, so there’s a chance he’s able to do the same against Atlanta. Philly moved Patrick Beverley and Jaden Springer at the deadline, so the team’s backcourt depth is razor-thin. Terquavion Smith and Ricky Council IV would be in line for major minutes if Maxey is ultimately ruled out. Atlanta allows the most points per game in the Association, and over the last week and a half, they’ve given up 60 to Steph Curry, 73 to Luka Doncic, and 30 points each to James Harden and Kawhi Leonard. Smith and Council IV could be intriguing streamers.
  • Shooting Guard #7
Buddy Hield and Cam Payne are out for Friday’s matchup with the Hawks due to pending trades.
Hield came over from the Pacers and Payne from the Bucks on Thursday, but the pair of guards won’t make their Sixers debuts on Friday. Philly traded Jaden Springer and Patrick Beverley at the deadline, leaving the backcourt thin behind Tyrese Maxey. Ricky Council IV (who led Philly in scoring with 17 points on Wednesday) and Terquavion Smith should see extended run Friday, making both streamable options on a modest, six-game slate.
  • PHI Shooting Guard
Terquavion Smith lit up Atlanta for 20 points (7-for-10 FGs), three rebounds, three assists and three 3-pointers on Thursday.
Smith has proven his scoring ability this summer after displaying it at NC State. He’ll be on a two-way contract this season for the 76ers, which means the majority of his year will be spent in Delaware with the Blue Coats. His scoring ability is hard to find, and he could be a rotational piece in the league one day if he keeps up these types of performances.
  • PHI Shooting Guard
Terquavion Smith played 29 minutes in Monday’s 111-103 loss to Dallas, accounting for 18 points (7-of-17 FGs, 1-of-3 FTs), six rebounds, six assists, one steal, and three 3-pointers.
If there’s one thing to know about Smith, it’s that he was a high-level scorer while at NC State. The 76ers have already signed him to a two-way contract, and it’s likely that the rookie guard will see the majority of his playing time with the G League affiliate in Delaware. The biggest issue for Smith on Monday was turnovers, as he was responsible for a team-high five (no other 76er had more than two). He’ll need to tighten things up in that area in the 76ers’ remaining Summer League games, but there’s a lot to like about the rookie regarding his scoring prowess.
