49ers selected Michigan State S Trent Robinson with the No. 180 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
At 5'10/195 with good wheels, Robinson has been compared to a poor man’s Earl Thomas. He clearly needs to add some bulk and strength to play either safety spot at the NFL level. Robinson started 13 games for the Spartans at free safety in 2011, making 80 tackles. He’ll fight for playing time with Colin Jones as a backup initially.
  • FA Defensive Back
49ers signed sixth-round FS Trent Robinson to a four-year contract.
Robinson is quite small for a free safety, but unlike Ahmad Black, he can run. He also throws his body around in the running game and flashes elite ball skills. We wouldn’t be surprised to see Robinson make himself difficult to keep off the field as soon as his rookie year. He can also cover the slot.

    49ers waived FS Trent Robinson.
The Niners’ 2012 draft is shaping up as a total disaster. First-rounder A.J. Jenkins is already gone and second-rounder LaMichael James is a bit player. Robinson, a sixth-round pick, dressed for just three games last year.

  • FA Defensive Back
    Redskins waived/injured S Trenton Robinson.
He will revert to injured reserve after passing through waivers. Robinson has missed the last two weeks with a hamstring injury. He aggravated the issue Thursday and would have missed most of the rest of the season. Washington has yet to fill the open roster spot.
  • FA Defensive Back
Panthers signed S Trenton Robinson to a one-year contract.
Robinson made seven starts for Washington last season, but was ineffective and landed on injured reserve in December with a hamstring injury. 26 years old, Robinson would likely have to make the Panthers’ 53 as a special teamer.
  • FA Defensive Back
    Redskins signed S Trent Robinson.
Robinson was waived by the Eagles at final cuts. A 2012 sixth-round pick of the 49ers, Robinson appeared in three games as a rookie. He’ll contribute on special teams for the Redskins.
