Mariners left-handed pitching prospect Tyler Pike threw six hitless innings on Wednesday, combining with two High-A High Desert relievers to throw a no-hitter. Pike walked two and struck out eight batters in eight innings, but ended up with a no-decision despite his best outing of the year.
Pike’s ERA was 2.97 through his first eight starts of the season, but it spiked to 5.57 after two poor outings. He bounced back in a big way, and he now has a 4.88 ERA, a 1.542 WHIP, and a 7.5 K/9 for the season. Pike projects as a mid-rotation starter at best who uses his athleticism and three potentially above-average pitches (fastball, curve ball, change up) to induce weak contact.
