Giants declared RB Brandon Jacobs, DE Justin Tuck, OG Chris Snee, CB Prince Amukamara, FB Henry Hynoski, OT James Brewer, and OT Dwayne Hendricks inactive for Week 6 against the Bills.
Ahmad Bradshaw gets C David Baas (neck) back, but loses Snee. With Jacobs out, Bradshaw should see 20+ touches against a soft defense missing NT Kyle Williams. Newsday’s Bob Glauber noted the winds outside MetLife Stadium are “hellacious,” so passing games could be affected.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
Eagles signed second-round DE Victor Abiamiri to a four-year contract.
He’s the third second-rounder to sign. Abiamiri was a strong pass rusher at Notre Dame but seemed to vanish for stretches, which naturally led to questions about his motor. He’ll be working in a five-man rotation for coordinator Jim Johnson, so Abiamiri’s ability should be utilized well.
  • JAC Defensive Back
Dolphins signed safeties Donovin Darius and Lamont Thompson.
The Dolphins hope the safeties will help fill the void left by injured S Yeremiah Bell. DE Akbar Gbaja-Biamila was waived to make room.
  • Cardinals C Nick Leckey will miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained knee.
Arizona stayed reasonably healthy in thier first preaseason game besides their backup center’s injury. Chike Okeafor will head for an MRI for a biceps injury.
  • JAC Defensive Lineman
Colts released DEs Bo Schobel and Ryan LaCasse.
Schobel and LaCasse both spent significant time on the Colts’ roster last season.
  • PHI Defensive Lineman
Eagles DEs Darren Howard and Jevon Kearse are not expected to be back with the team in 2008 unless they take significant pay cuts in the offseason.
With Juqua Thomas and Trent Cole now starting, the Eagles’ two highest paid ends are reserves. Philadelphia also has rookie Victor Abiamiri, a natural left end, to push the undersized Thomas. Howard, in particular, has lost virtually his entire role on defense. He has a total of four tackles all year.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson indicated Tuesday that DE Victor Abiamiri will be in the mix to start in 2008.
Abiamiri, a 2007 second-round pick, focused on special teams as a rookie, but has ideal skills for a left end in Johnson’s scheme. He’ll push incumbent Juqua Thomas and underachieving Darren Howard for the job in camp.
  • LA Defensive Lineman
Rams DE Leonard Little is likely lost for the season with a toe injury.
Little visited foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson, who revealed the news during St. Louis’ bye week. He’ll need surgery, and will probably get it out of the way sooner than later. The procedure will cost him four months of rehab. Little, like most other Rams players, was in the midst of a major down season. Getting sophomore end Victor Adeyanju more playing time and Little a headstart on his recovery sounds like the best move for 0-8 St. Louis.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
Eagles coach Andy Reid revealed Sunday that DE Victor Abiamiri is out until mid-August with a pectorals injury.
It’s unclear if he had surgery, but this won’t help Abiamiri’s chances of overtaking incumbent LE Juqua Parker. Abiamiri might’ve won the starting job in 2008 camp if he hadn’t fractured his wrist at this time last year.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
Victor Abiamiri and Juqua Parker shared time as the Eagles’ first-team left defensive end at May OTAs.
Parker is the incumbent, but wore down late last season and Abiamiri offers a more complete skill set. This could end up being a rotation, with Chris Clemons and Bryan Smith also chipping in. It’s an IDP situation to avoid.
