Yudai Ono has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Chunichi Dragons in Japan, per MLB.com’s Jon Morosi.
Ono would have definitely drawn significant interest from MLB clubs had he been posted this winter, but this new deal with Chunichi signals that the 32-year-old native of Kyoto might never make the move. Ono, a left-hander, put up a stellar 1.79 ERA, 0.826 WHIP, and 137/20 K/BB ratio over 135 2/3 innings (18 starts) this season in Nippon Professional Baseball’s Central League. He is expected to take home the 2020 Eiji Sawamura Award, which is the Japanese equivalent of Major League Baseball’s Cy Young Award.

Jon Morosi of MLB.com reports that Japanese pitcher Yudai Ono is drawing interest from major league clubs, if he’s posted.
It could be a moot point, though, as Morosi hears from one source that it’s “unlikely” the Chunichi Dragons will post their ace this offseason. Ono, 32, has posted a 1.79 ERA and 137/20 K/BB ratio over 135 2/3 innings this season for Chunichi and is expected to win the Sawamura Award, which is awarded to Nippon Professional Baseball’s top pitcher.
