Rondón was removed from the Giants’ 40-man roster and went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment back in late July. The 24-year-old right-hander, who has made three relief appearances in the majors since 2021, was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals back in mid-July and wound up making just three relief appearances at Triple-A Sacramento prior to his release.

Rondón was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals last month but has yet to get a shot at the big league level with San Francisco. He’ll remain part of the organization but is no longer on the 40-man roster.

Rondón was claimed off waivers from the Cardinals a few weeks ago, but the Giants needed to clear out a 40-man roster spot Tuesday for Tommy La Stella’s return from the COVID-19 injured list.

They then optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento. Rondón was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Friday after he had fired five scoreless innings and posted a 4/3 K/BB ratio with the big league club this season. He’ll serve as additional bullpen depth for the Giants at Triple-A.

The Cardinals had to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Génesis Cabrera to return on Friday and it looks as though Rondón was the odd-man out. The 24-year-old hurler has fired five scoreless innings with a 4/3 K/BB ratio with the Cardinals this season. There’s a chance he could pique another club’s interest on waivers.

Rondón tossed five scoreless innings Sunday in relief against the Pirates in his season debut. He’s been jettisoned to the minors to allow the Cardinals to bring up a fresh arm ahead of Monday’s series opener against the Blue Jays. The 24-year-old righty has been excellent at the Triple-A level and should get another opportunity soon in the majors.

The Cardinals add a fresh arm to the bullpen with Rondon. The 24-year-old right-hander has produced a 3.97 ERA with 27 strikeouts over 22 2/3 innings in Triple-A.

The Cardinals continue to pare down their roster with Opening Day less than two weeks away. Naughton was just claimed off waivers from the Angels earlier in the week, while Rondon, Quezada and Zeuch will serve as organizational pitching depth to open the 2022 season.

This move clears out a 26-man roster spot for Kwang-Hyun Kim, who is off the injured list and starting Tuesday night against the Marlins. Rondon worked two scoreless innings during his short stay.

Rondón has compiled a 5.32 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 16/7 K/BB ratio over 23 2/3 innings (five appearances, four starts) at Triple-A Memphis. He’ll operate in a long relief role out of the Cardinals’ bullpen, which was heavily-taxed on Friday evening after lefty Kwang-Hyun Kim was forced to make an early exit due to lower back tightness.
