Browns declared DE Auston English, QB Thaddeus Lewis, RB Montario Hardesty, RB Peyton Hillis, C/G Steve Vallos, CB Dimitri Patterson and S Ray Ventrone inactive for Sunday’s game against the Texans.
No surprises here. English (knee), Hardesty (calf), Patterson (knee) and Hillis (hamstring) were all ruled out early in the week. The only mild surprise is Ventrone (hamstring), the Browns’ top special teamer that was listed as probable. Mohamed Massaquoi (concussion) is ready to go.

Browns signed DE Auston English off their practice squad.
The injuries Marcus Benard suffered in his motorcycle accident are apparently more severe than originally thought. Coach Pat Shurmur hinted that Benard’s season is over. English bounced around between the Browns’ and Bills’ practice squads last season after going undrafted out of Oklahoma.

Browns signed LB Auston English and WR Rod Windsor to reserve/future contracts.
English was highly productive in college at Oklahoma when healthy, but he went undrafted and was waived by the Browns in June. Windsor, who played his college ball at Western New Mexico, spent one week on the Browns’ practice squad this season before joining the Bills’ practice squad.

Browns released or waived DE Derreck Robinson, DL Auston English, and LB Benjamin Jacobs.
Robinson was signed in 2009 to fit Rob Ryan’s 3-4 scheme. At 6'4/295, he was a man without a position in Dick Jauron’s 4-3 defense. English went undrafted in 2010 after a productive career at Oklahoma.
