Tennessee received a verbal commitment from former USC sophomore WR Bru McCoy.
A former five-star, McCoy (6'3/220) had been in the transfer portal since just after the national championship game in January. Part of the reason that he left Los Angeles was due to being suspended after a July arrest for intimate partner violence. In August, it was reported that he would not face criminal charges but he didn’t get back on the field for the Trojans. After starting at USC, McCoy had transferred to Texas but returned to USC due to homesickness just months later. He did play in 2020, catching 21 passes for 236 yards and two touchdowns. He heads to Knoxville where he will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. If he can develop some rapport with Hendon Hooker, McCoy could see his stock rise throughout the season.

USC redshirt sophomore WR Bru McCoy to enter the transfer portal.
It’s been quite the six months for McCoy (6'3/220). He was arrested for felony domestic violence on July 24th but he didn’t receive any charges from the incident. The ninth-ranked recruit in the 2019 class originally enrolled at Texas before transferring to USC just six months later. He was suspended for the incident and never rejoined team activities. He hasn’t been the most productive player for the Trojans, accumulating just 21 catches for 236 yards and two touchdowns in the 2020 season. McCoy joins many other Trojans who have entered the portal upon the arrival of Lincoln Reilly. There is a lot of talent that can be unlocked with McCoy, as many thought he would become what Drake London eventually did.

USC redshirt sophomore WR Bru McCoy will not face criminal charges for his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence.
McCoy (6'3/220) was arrested on July 24 and charged with intimate partner violence with injury, which is classified as a felony. The redshirt sophomore was subsequently released on $50,000 bond the same day and was scheduled to appear in court on November 24. However with the LA County district attorney refusing to pursue charges, McCoy is now a free man with no legislation hanging over his head. It remains to be seen how USC will react to the finding, but there appears to be no reason for McCoy to continue to be suspended.

USC redshirt sophomore WR Bru McCoy has yet to take part in spring practice due to a hamstring issue, according to HC Clay Helton.
Helton said over the weekend that McCoy (6'3/220) should be able to begin practicing early this week. The redshirt sophomore will be of even greater importance to the USC receiving corps this season, as Amon-Ra St. Brown and Tyler Vaughns have both moved on to the professional ranks. McCoy finished the 2020 season with a receiving line of 21-236-2, ranking second among the Trojans returnees behind Drake London.

USC redshirt freshman WR Bru McCoy caught six passes for 76 yards with a touchdown in a 31-24 loss on Friday to Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship Game.
McCoy finished with the most receiving yards for the Trojans for the second time this season. The former five-star recruit brought USC to within a touchdown on a four-yard scoring pass from Kedon Slovis in the fourth quarter. There were a lot of mouths to feed in this loaded Trojans’ wide receiver group, but McCoy showed star potential -- albeit briefly -- at times in the 2021 season. He should be involved in whatever bowl game USC plays in this winter.

USC redshirt freshman WR Bru McCoy earned five receptions for 66 yards in Saturday’s 33-17 win over Utah.
McCoy is slowly but surely coming into his own with USC. Though nothing outrageous, 66-yards is a new high for McCoy, besting his previous high of 51 yards in the opener. McCoy, all 6-foot-3 and 220-pounds of him, is a massive target for QB Kedon Slovis, both over the middle and near the sideline. Slovis does not really need the help with regards to having a bigger target, but it certainly does not hurt. With Colorado, Washington State, and UCLA left on the schedule, McCoy has a good chance to really round out the year with some strong performances if he can build off this one.

USC redshirt freshman WR Bru McCoy caught five passes for 51 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 28-27 win over Arizona State.
McCoy (6'3/220) arrived on the scene the subject of a wild recruitment that saw him commit to USC, flip to Texas and then transfer to USC ahead of the 2019 season. Now healthy after battling some serious health issues the redshirt freshman is ready to contribute, and he had a solid showing in Saturday’s win. With Drake London and Amon-Ra St. Brown also in the mix, USC has enough to account for the graduation of Michael Pittman Jr. without asking McCoy to do too much. He’ll look to build on Saturday’s performance next weekend when the Trojans visit Arizona.

USC HC Clay Helton said on Monday that he “definitely sees” redshirt freshman WR Bru McCoy being a contributor this season.
The wild recruitment that McCoy (6'3/220) experienced may have led some to forget just how talented the former five-star prospect is. After sitting out the entire 2019 season for health reasons the redshirt freshman was slowed by a hamstring issue early in fall camp, but he was back to full-speed earlier this month. McCoy looked good during Saturday’s scrimmage and stands to be another capable target at the disposal of sophomore QB Kedon Slovis when the Trojans begin their season November 7 vs. Arizona State.

USC HC Clay Helton says redshirt freshman WR Bru McCoy (hamstring) was back to “full speed” in practice on Thursday.
Helton mentioned that McCoy had been nursing a bit of a hamstring issue lately. Seeing as McCoy (6'3/220) never needed surgery or anything, it seems it was pretty minor. McCoy already being back to full speed with their first game still a month out gives him plenty of time to ramp up for the season. A five-star recruit in USC’s 2019 class, McCoy did not play last season, but has all the talent in the world to make an impact this year.
