The Redskins failed to tender restricted free agent CB Byron Westbrook, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Westbrook went undrafted back in 2007, but was picked up by Washington and has been there ever since. Brian’s little brother spent his first two years on the practice squad, but has contributed on special teams and provided depth at corner over the last three seasons. There’s a good chance he lands a camp invite despite the non-tender.

Redskins CB Byron Westbrook is expected to be out at least a week after suffering a knee injury Monday night.
Westbrook was one of a host of players to hit the infirmary after the hard-hitting game. He’s still being evaluated, so it’s not known how serious the injury is. The Redskins have a bye this week.

Redskins waived CB Byron Westbrook, CB Matteral Richardson, LB Danny Verdun Wheeler, and T Tavares Washington.
Westbrook is Brian’s little brother. The Redskins are down to 53 men.

Redskins CB Byron Westbrook is out for at least one game after undergoing surgery on the knee he injured in Week 7.
The operation was likely “arthroscopic,” but will keep him out of Week 9. Westbrook is a special teamer, with just four tackles on defense this year.

NBC Washington reports that Redskins CB Byron Westbrook was arrested early Friday on suspicion of drunk driving.
Westbrook was pulled over at 2AM after police observed him changing lanes rapidly, and was discovered to have alcohol on his breath. Brian’s younger brother failed “several” sobriety tests and refused a breathalyzer. With a new coaching staff in Washington, Westbrook could get a pink slip shortly.

Redskins signed CB Byron Westbrook to a reserve/future contract.
Brian’s little brother will have a shot to make the 2009 club if Carlos Rogers is dealt. Otherwise, he may have to spend another year on the practice squad.
  • FA Wide Receiver #16
Redskins KR Brandon Banks underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee last week and is expected to miss next Sunday’s game against the Eagles.
Coach Mike Shanahan expects Banks to miss 2-3 weeks. It’s a major blow to the Redskins, as Banks was a difference-maker on both punts and kicks. But as long as Banks doesn’t have setbacks, he’s expected to return for Week 11 against the Titans. Look for Chad Simpson and Byron Westbrook to fill in on kickoff returns, and Phillip Buchanon to step in on punts.

Redskins CB Byron Westbrook has been acquitted of DUI and several other charges stemming from his mid-February arrest.
He’d been accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired, negligent driving, and failing to stay on the right side of the road. Westbrook pleaded not guilty to all counts and was absolved of everything. Brian’s younger brother will avoid league discipline.

    Redskins released CB Justin Tryon.
It’s a surprising move, considering the team also cut CB Ramzee Robinson. This should signal that Byron Westbrook got the nod as the team’s No. 5 cornerback.
