    Dr. Keith Meister preformed the procedure in Arlington, Texas. Ellis had allowed five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings (two starts) this season with the Orioles before he went on the IL last Tuesday due to what was originally diagnosed as shoulder inflammation. There is no timetable for his return.

    Ellis left his start Sunday against the Angels with right shoulder discomfort, and it’s an ailment that is going to cost him at least a couple of turns in the Orioles’ rotation. Alexander Wells has been called up Tuesday in a corresponding 28-man roster move.

    Ellis faced just five batters in the opening inning -- issuing a walk to Shohei Ohtani, plunking Mike Trout, walking Anthony Rendon, allowing an RBI single to Jared Walsh and then walking Taylor Ward. All of the inherited runners ultimately scored, charging him with five runs in the outing without recording an out. It’s unclear how long he may be sidelined, but it’s likely that he’ll wind up on the injured list.

    Ellis was called up for the start on Tuesday and did a decent enough job. He did walk three on the evening (against two strikeouts) in what was his eighth career appearance in the big leagues, Control has been a consistent issue for Ellis during his brief time in the majors. Ellis could potentially receive another turn through the rotation and if he did, it would likely come against the Angels on Sunday.
