If Rusin doesn’t have soreness, he’ll go out on a rehab assignment, perhaps as soon as Friday. He’s been on the 10-day disabled list since July 24 with left plantar fasciitis. Rusin should be ready to rejoin the Rockies bullpen in the middle of August.

Rusin pitched for the Rockies from 2015-19 before making one appearance with the Braves last season. He’ll give the Rockies some left-handed relief depth at their alternate site.

Rusin was designated for assignment by the Braves earlier this week and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 33-year-old left-hander had allowed three earned runs in 3 1/3 innings this season.

Rusin gets the boot after giving up three runs over 3 1/3 innings of relief on Monday. The move clears a spot on the Braves’ 40-man roster.

Rusin made two appearances for the Rockies in 2019 before being designated for assignment. The Braves will hope he can recapture some of his 2017 form as a lefty reliever in their bullpen.

The 33-year-old reliever made it into two games last year with the Rockies. He has a 20-28 career record and 4.62 career ERA in 188 games since making his debut with the Cubs back in 2012. He will serve as organizational depth for the Braves and could potentially see a bit of big-league time.

Rusin was designated for assignment by Colorado last week after allowing four runs over two appearances (one inning) upon his return from a back strain. The 32-year-old left-hander passed through waivers unclaimed.

The left-hander has been on the disabled list since the beginning of the year due to a mid-back strain, and thee Rockies have taken precautions with the southpaw. “We’re being cautious, and we want to build up his innings,” Bud Black told reporters on Wednesday. Expect Rusin to be back with the Rockies in the early part of June if there are no setbacks.
