Unless it’s making national news, you’re hardly ever going to find an FCS post on here.
Or a Division II post.
Or Division III.
But this year’s D3 title game between Wisconsin-Whitewater and Mt. Union is more than newsworthy. For the sixth straight season, the two powerhouses met in the national championship game, with Whitewater coming out on top 31-21.
To put that in perspective, no team on that level has ever reached the championship game more than five times period.
And the series has been close, too, with 5 of those games have been decided by 10 points or fewer. This time around, Whitewater clung to a 3-point game with under 3 minutes left in the game before running back Levell Coppage ripped off a 75-yard touchdown to seal the victory.
Certainly, there are great rivalries on every level of football, but if these two schools continue their trend of successful runs in the playoffs, it might turn into one of the great ones in college sports.
