FLORIDA WINS AP TITLE

Well, any hope of using this year’s outcome to the bowl season as a catalyst for sparking meaningful change has taken a dramatic hit.The Associated Press has voted Florida the No. 1 team in the country. Despite the fact that Utah finished 13-0 and trounced Alabama in the Vandalay Sugar Bowl. But should we be surprised? The AP poll would lose most if not all of its relevance if college football adopted a playoff system. So in this year, with momentum (which as we learned from Thom Brennamen and Charles Davis last night is a living, breathing creature with a soul) pushing toward some type of a system that crowns an undisputed champion, the AP poll takes a contrarian routee of being non-contrarian.We’re probably reaching a bit, something we never do at PFT. (Eye roll. Fart.) But, still, Utah’s performance in the Sugar Bowl demonstrated that it is as good as if not better than the supposedly “best” teams. So since Utah finished undefeated, Utah should be the champions. But, hey, at least West Virginia finished No. 23. Not I’m not completely pissed. The full list, by the way, is here.
