As the Summer of Jim hits a fever pitch, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh made a pitch of his own (sorry for the baseball pun) to Braves legend Hank Aaron at the Wolverines’ satellite camp in Atlanta last week.
Harbaugh told Aaron, who was MLB’s home run king until Barry Bonds dethroned him in August 2007, that he wants him to be an honorary captain at a Michigan football game this fall, per the Detroit Free Press’ Mark Synder.
The offer carries a little more weight because, as Snyder points out, Aaron has a granddaughter who is not only a student at Michigan, but also works for the football program in recruiting. And in Snyder’s story, there’s a photo of Aaron wearing a Michigan cap, so maybe don’t count this one out.
Aaron’s granddaughter, Emily Haydel, said the longtime Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves outfielder nearly made it up to Ann Arbor for Michigan’s “Signing of the Stars” spectacle, but instead contributed to a video that played at the event.
