Just as the “Days Without an Arrest” ticker was slowly creeping its way toward double digits, it is, as is ofttimes the case in the offseason, back to double zeroes.
The latest to find himself on the wrong side of the law is North Carolina State’s Logan Winkles, who was arrested over the weekend following a traffic stop. According to the Raleigh News & Observer, the 20-year-old fullback was charged with driving while impaired, being under the legal drinking age and driving after consuming alcohol.
No details of what led to the Saturday afternoon arrest were available, although a police report stated that Winkles’ BAC was .12.
In a statement, new head coach Dave Doeren said that the football program is “aware of this unfortunate situation and will await the outcome of the university’s disciplinary processes before we determine what action to take or comment further.”
As a junior in 2012, Winkles started four of the 12 games in which he played. While he didn’t record a carry from his fullback position, he did have 10 receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns.
Earlier this year, Winkles and Doeren took part in a “jam session” with 2011 American Idol winner Scotty McCreery as part of the basketball version of ESPN’s “College GameDay.” The trio performed Johnny Cash‘s “Folsom Prison Blues,” and it’s actually pretty damn good.
