Notre Dame and Toledo will play each other for the first time on Sept. 11, 2021 in South Bend, Toledo announced Monday.
“We are very pleased and excited to add Notre Dame to our 2021 football schedule,” Toledo vice-president and athletic director Mike O’Brien said. “Notre Dame has one of the greatest college football traditions in the country so it definitely will be a matchup our football team will be looking forward to. The game also has the added benefit of only being just a two-and-a-half hour drive from Toledo, so I know many of our fans will travel to South Bend for the contest.”
Toledo will be the fifth school currently in the MAC to play Notre Dame when it does in five years, joining Miami (1909, 2017), Akron (1910), Western Michigan (1919, 1920 and 2010) and Ball State (2018).
Notre Dame will be coming off a season-opening game at Florida State on Labor Day five days prior to its meeting with Toledo in 2021.
