Penn State is, unfortunately, dealing with an offseason injury as well.
Per a release from the school, redshirt junior defensive end Brad Bars will miss the 2013 season because of a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right ankle. Bars is scheduled for surgery in the coming weeks and his recovery time is expected to be somewhere between four and six months. Bars will have one season of eligibility remaining when beginning in 2014 unless he receives a sixth year from the NCAA.
Bars played in eight games for the Nittany Lions last year, recording just two tackles. He was listed as a backup defensive end heading into fall camp.
