Aren’t they supposed to be really bright at Stanford? In the wake of a throw-it-against-the-wall-and-see-if-it-sticks item from Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News linking Cardinal coach Jim Harbaugh to the Raiders, the powers-that-be in Palo Alto have commenced talks at extending his contract."Jim and I have talked, and I have visited with his agent,” Stanford A.D. Bob Bowlsby recently said. “We will be happy to extend Jim as long as he would like to be extended. No details have been determined, but we would like to keep Jim at Stanford as long as possible."Harbaugh had this to say when asked recently about the Raiders job: “I have given no thought to any other job than the one I have. I haven’t talked to anybody or anything like that. I hope this doesn’t get to be like the quarterback question — like who’s your starting quarterback. That would get real repetitive."Asked whether he has spoken to Raiders owner Al Davis, Harbaugh said, “We have three games here, starting with Oregon. Can you honestly think I would be thinking about anything other than playing against Oregon and going down this stretch?"Attention, Stanford. This one is easy. If Harbaugh is dumb enough to want to coach the Raiders, then he’s not smart enough to work for you.
