As it turns out, Chad Kelly‘s not the only offseason legal headache for Hugh Freeze.
The Jackson Clarion-Ledger is reporting that safety Trae Elston and wide receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow were arrested following some type of incident very early Thursday morning. Both players were charged with disorderly conduct, while Elston received a bonus charge of resisting arrest courtesy of the Oxford Police Department.
No details of what led to the arrest and charges have been released, and the school has yet to comment on the development.
The most notable of the players involved is Elston. Over the past three years, the safety has started 32 games for the Rebels. The player whose future may be most impacted by the incident, however, is Stringfellow.
Stringfellow sat out the 2014 season after transferring into the football program from Washington -- after initially being ticketed for Nebraska. His departure from UW was tumultuous as, following a pair of assaults in early February that led to charges in early April and a suspension by then-Huskies head coach Steve Sarkisian, the two sides “parted ways” in May of 2014.
The receiver is expected to have a significant role in the Rebels’ offense in 2015. Whether he gets that opportunity because of his history remains to be seen.
