NBC Denver’s Mike Klis reports Mager had been absent from voluntary workouts because of a personal issue. The 26-year-old made one regular season appearance in 2018, suiting up for the Chargers. 2016 was the last time he was a regular contributor.

A special teamer, Mager could be released with an injury settlement when healthy. The Chargers promoted OT Trent Scott from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Mager has been an every-snap player since Jason Verrett’s injury. His loss leaves the Chargers’ cornerback corps even more woefully thin.

Mager (6'0/201) made 48 starts for the TSU Bobcats, recording eight career INTs and leading the Sun Belt Conference in pass breakups (13) as a senior. A supremely gifted athlete, Mager blazed 4.44 at the Combine with a 38-inch vertical and 10-foot-10 broad jump. An aggressive tackler with explosion in his legs, Sager is an intriguing project with starting-caliber size and movement ability. Some NFL scouts pegged him as a safety during the pre-draft phase, though the Chargers announced Mager as a corner.
