Interesting. Koo’s agent had been telling everyone who would listen that a contract with the Yankees was agreed to over a month ago. The 35-year-old Koo was 24-34 with a 3.88 ERA in 63 starts and 47 relief appearances in four seasons in Japan. He recorded 504 strikeouts in 503 innings. The Mets will give him a chance to make the team as a reliever.

Koo hadn’t appeared in a game since being called up four days ago. He’s not expected back with the Mets next season.

Koo pitched four scoreless innings for Norfolk. He’ll be used as a specialist.

Koo remains Mets property for the moment, but the club isn’t likely to have any interest in bringing him back. He had a 3.91 ERA in 23 innings last season.

Koo had been out since June 2 with a rotator cuff strain.

Koo is a lefty from Korea. He doesn’t belong on fantasy rosters, but he has a live arm and should be watched.

The Korean lefty uses an interesting arm angle and the Mets bullpen is desperate for live arms. With at least four spots available this spring, Koo should have enough upside to make the team.

He hurt his shoulder against the Yankees and is now on the DL with the injury. ''It’s a little disappointing that if he did get hurt on that (play) he wouldn’t give us a heads up on it,’' coach Willie Randolph said. ''It seems like there’s always a mix-up in communication or a lack of communication. ... Maybe in Korea they don’t believe in saying how they feel or telling the manager how they feel about something physical.’'

Koo apparently is still hurting as a result of his head-first slide into home plate against the Yankees. He had struggled ever since, so he’ll get at least a couple of weeks off.
