Danny Worth will replace him on the roster while Ryan Raburn should get most of the playing time in left field. It’s a blow for the Tigers, as Young went 6-for-19 with three homers during the ALDS, but Raburn has a chance to fare well against the lefty-heavy Rangers’ rotation

Worth will be used as the Tigers’ utility infielder and fourth outfielder. He went 1-for-5 in three games with Detroit earlier this month.

He was cleared to make room for Brandon Inge’s return from the disabled list. Worth is 1-for-5 with the Tigers this season and should return to the majors at some point soon.

There’s a flu bug going around the Tigers’ clubhouse right now, but Santiago should be back to normal within the next day or two. Danny Worth will make the start at second base and bat eighth Tuesday.

Worth characterized it as his oblique area, but either way, it doesn’t seem to be a major concern. The 26-year-old is 3-for-9 (.333) with a home run this spring.

Inge has made a better-than-expected transition over to second base defensively, but he’s batting only .219/.265/.375. Worth, meanwhile, is hitting .318/.400/.591 and has drawn praise from Tigers manager Jim Leyland, who says the 26-year-old is “as good as any utility infielder in the league this year.” Ultimately, we don’t expect either to receive a ton of playing time should they win a roster spot.

Leyland apparently wants to clinch having the worst infield defense of all-time. While Inge is known as a strong defender at the hot corner, he has never played an inning at second base during his entire professional career. The odds are against the 34-year-old making a smooth transition, but he’ll apparently be thrown into the mix with Ryan Raburn, Ramon Santiago and Danny Worth.

He’ll take the roster spot of Ryan Raburn, who was placed on the bereavement list Tuesday. Worth is hitting .176 (3-for-17) in 12 games with the Tigers this year and should split time with Ramon Santiago at second base.

He’ll take the roster spot of Jose Ortega, who was optioned to the minors on Sunday. Worth is hitting .182 (10-for-55) with a double and two RBI in 30 games with the Tigers this season. He can be ignored in fantasy leagues.

Worth was hitting just .176 with a .476 OPS in 12 games for the Tigers. He should be back up eventually.
