David MacKinnon has signed with the Samsung Lions of the Korea Baseball Organization.
The 29-year-old spent the 2022 season in Japan where he hit .263/.331/.420 with 17 homers, 53 RBI and a 91/48 K/BB ratio over 517 plate appearances with the Seibu Lons. Perhaps another strong season in 2024 could pave the way for a potential return stateside.
  • INT 1st Baseman #49
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that David MacKinnon has signed on with the Seibu Lions in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
After years of toiling in the minor leagues, the 28-year-old finally broke through to the big leagues in 2022 -- but wound up slashing just .140/.228/.140 with no homers, six RBI and a 17/6 K/BB ratio across 57 plate appearances. He’ll go for the guaranteed money overseas as opposed to settling for another minor league gig stateside.

MacKinnon will provide the Athletics with some extra position player depth with outfielder Ramón Laureano landing on the injured list ahead of Tuesday’s contest against the Rangers. The 27-year-old rookie has hit .189 (7-for-37) with six RBI in 16 games this season for the division-rival Angels before being claimed off waivers earlier this month.

  • INT 1st Baseman #49
David MacKinnon went 1-for-2 with a two-run single in Tuesday’s loss to the Astros.
The Angels were down four runs entering the bottom of the seventh inning before they sparked a rally, with MacKinnon’s two-run single tying up the contest at 5-5 on the scoreboard. The Astros would ultimately secure the win regardless, plating a run in the top of the ninth. For his part this season, MacKinnon has picked up six hits over his first 30 at-bats in the bigs. He has yet to post an extra-base hit with the Halos.

David MacKinnon went 1-for-2 with two RBI and a walk in Wednesday’s win over the Royals.
MacKinnon just received the call to the bigs last week. On Wednesday, he gave Shohei Ohtani some much needed support, posting a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning to snap a scoreless tie and later putting in a seventh-inning RBI single. That latter knock gave the Angels a 3-0 lead. It was also the first hit of his big league career. The 27-year-old first baseman was absolutely crushing it at Triple-A prior to coming up to the Angels, but at least for now, there is no immediate need for fantasy managers to rush to the waiver wire, here. Still, keep MacKinnon in mind, just in case he does find a groove.
