Devin Harris has won the starting point guard job with the Dallas Mavericks.
Whoa. Harris has already turned some heads this spring, and Charles Barkley even pegged him as his rookie of the year. Jason Terry has unselfishly agreed to play the Nick Van Exel-like sixth man role in Dallas. “Anybody who looks at the history of me, that’s where I made my name,” Terry said. “With my energy and leadership coming off the bench with that second group, that’s going to be exactly what we need.” Jerry Stackhouse and Marquis Daniels will join Terry as part of an excellent second unit. Harris should be picked up right away in deep leagues. He’ll start alongside Josh Howard, Michael Finley, Dirk Nowitzki, and Erick Dampier.

Coach Don Nelson said he’s not certain how he will divide time at the point guard spot.
“I don’t have an idea on the point guard minutes,” he said Friday. “I have a pretty good idea on everybody else. But it really depends on who’s playing well [between Devin Harris and Jason Terry]. If they’re both playing well, it would be beautiful just to split it 24-24.” Well, that’s kind of unfortunate, because both players have Top 20 point guard potential when getting enough minutes. The Mavs should do well with all their weapons, but it makes it tough on fantasy owners. Look for Harris to continue to start and be relieved by Terry at the first sign of rookie-itis.

Devin Harris is going to get more playing time now that Jason Terry is out of the linup with an ankle injury.
Marquis Daniels is going to get more time at shooting guard while Devin Harris runs the point. Jerry Stackhouse and Josh Howard will get additional minutes as well with Michael Finley injured. It remains to be seen if Coach Don Nelson is going to replace Erick Dampier with a combination of Alan Henderson, Shawn Bradley and Calvin Booth, or play a small lineup. Based on his choices, we’re going to guess he’ll go small ball.

Devin Harris was a DNP-CD for the second straight game.
    Time to drop him.
  • NBA Point Guard #34
Veteran Devin Harris is weighing his options, including retirement.
Harris, now 36-years-old, averaged just shy of 16 minutes in 68 games for the Mavericks last season. Even if he does find the right opportunity, Harris will have next to zero fantasy value next season.
  • NYK Guard #11
Jalen Brunson will start Wednesday’s season finale in place of Luka Doncic (thigh).
The Mavs will keep the rest of their lineup the same as it was on Tuesday, with Brunson joined by Devin Harris, Justin Jackson, Dwight Powell and Dirk Nowitzki.
  • NBA Point Guard #34
Devin Harris is starting over Jalen Brunson on Tuesday vs. the Suns.
This could be Dirk Nowitzki’s final home game if he retires this summer, so maybe that’s the thinking here with Harris and Dirk being good friends. The Mavs can also move ahead of the Grizzlies in the tank ranks with a loss tonight, so there could be some shadiness going on as well. Isn’t April fun?
  • NYK Guard #11
Jalen Brunson (load management) is questionable for Friday’s game vs. Memphis.
The Mavs’ 22-year-old rookie has averaged 21.5 minutes per game this season, but that’s jumped to 30.8 for the past month. If he does sit out, Trey Burke should benefit the most while veterans Devin Harris and Courtney Lee also pick up extra minutes.
  • NBA Point Guard #9
Trey Burke popped off for 25 points, four 3-pointers, two rebounds, eight assists and zero turnovers in 31 minutes off the bench during Sunday’s win over the Thunder.
Burke was hot from the jump, going 5-of-8 from the field through the first half of action while racking up six dimes without a single turnover, and he didn’t commit any turnovers through his 31 minutes of floor time. He could see some more minutes while Luka Doncic (thigh) is out, but inconsistency makes him little more than a low-end streamer in deep leagues. Devin Harris finished with 15 points, four treys, one rebound, one assist and two turnovers in 17 minutes.
  • NBA Point Guard #34
Devin Harris handed out a season-high nine assists with is points, two rebounds and no turnovers in 22 minutes against the Cavs on Saturday.
He picked up some extra minutes with Luka Doncic (knee) out. Luka may not be out for long and Jalen Brunson is rolling, so Harris is only a DFS punt or a stream play in standard leagues.
