D-backs could add Jose Cabrera to rotation

Harris’ home run was his 24th of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Nationals reliever Clayton Beeter in the eighth inning. Harris hit .314 in August, but with only three home runs in 28 games. He’s hitting .296 with an .829 OPS and 80 RBI this year.

Albies’ home run was his 21st of the season. He hit a solo shot off Jake Irvin in the second inning. Albies hadn’t hit a home run since August 11 against the Mets, a span of 18 games. He’s hitting .254 with a .725 OPS and 68 RBI this year.

Wood reached base safely in two of his four plate appearances and logged seven innings in left field during his latest minor league rehab game for Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday. He’s been working his way back from an oblique strain that sent him to the injured list back in early August. All signs point to the 23-year-old fantasy superstar making it back for Wednesday’s contest in Washington. He was hitting .265/.393/.535 with 100 runs scored, 30 homers, 73 RBI and 17 stolen bases across 535 plate appearances in 114 games prior to the injury.

Morales’ home run was the first of his career. He hit a solo shot off AJ Smith-Shawver in the third inning. Morales had 25 home runs at Triple-A prior to his call-up. If his bat stays hot, he could be an intriguing source of power down the stretch.

Smith-Shawver gave up six hits, walked three and struck out five. He fell to 0-1 in four starts with a 7.13 ERA. Smith-Shawver can safely be left on the waiver wire in mixed leagues for now. He’s lined up to face the Rays at home next week.

Irvin gave up five hits, walked one and struck out five. It’s the third time in his last five starts that he’s failed to complete five innings. Irvin hasn’t won a start since May 23 against the Braves, a span of seven starts. He has a 5.57 ERA. Irvin is lined up to face the Padres on the road next week, but he’s not worth the risk for fantasy managers.

Genao’s home run was his second of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Blue Jays reliever Joe Mantiply in the seventh inning. Genao pinch hit for Travis Bazzana with the left-handed Mantiply on the mound. He’s not playing everyday, with makes him a tough sell for mixed league fantasy managers. The home run was nice to see from a promising young player, though.

It’ll take Griffin a couple additional rehab contests to get back up to speed following lengthy layoff recovering from a finger injury. However, he’s trending towards making it back to Pittsburgh’s lineup relatively soon, possibly as early as Friday’s game against the Angels when he’s first eligible to come off the injured list.

Martínez’ home run was his 14th of the season. He hit a two-run shot off Blue Jays reliever Michael Lorenzen in the seventh inning. Martínez hit .324 in August, but only had two home runs. He’s hitting .249 with a .728 OPS and 50 RBI this year.
