MacKenzie Gore holds Padres to one run on Saturday

Castro was one of the few bright spots for Colorado in this one as he kicked off the scoring with a solo homer off emerging Nationals ace Cade Cavalli in the fourth inning. It was his 15th big fly of the season and lone hit in four at-bats.

Cavalli reeled off his ninth consecutive quality start and has accomplished the feat in an astonishing 26 of his 28 starts this season. The 28-year-old former top prospect allowed solo homers to Willi Castro and Ezequiel Tovar, but managed to keep Colorado’s offense in check otherwise. He’s notched at least seven strikeouts in four straight starts since August 8. Simply put, he’s looked like an upper-echelon fantasy starter for a couple months and is going to be an extremely popular early-round pick in drafts next spring.

It’s no secret that Dingler’s hot bat has cooled off in recent weeks. He got a base hit in Saturday’s loss to the Royals to break an 0-for-10 streak and then received the day off on Sunday. Back in the lineup Monday, Dingler had another single. The Rays and the Dodgers aren’t great matchups for Tigers hitters this week, but Dingler is due to break out of his slump and has at least shown some signs that his bat might be waking up in his last two games.

Gasper also walked twice, reaching base safely in all four of his plate appearances. He came through with a key hit in this one, delivering a game-tying RBI double off Marlins starter Sandy Alcantara in the fifth inning. The big question is whether he’ll have a role once Roman Anthony (finger) is back from the injured list relatively soon. He’s been on a roll recently, hitting .421 (8-for-19) with three homers and 10 RBI over his last seven games.

Chapman was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the final frame and managed to work around a leadoff single by Owen Caissie to preserve the win. The 38-year-old veteran has notched three saves in the last four days and is just three shy of 400 for his career. He’s recorded back-to-back 30-save campaigns for the Red Sox as his unexpected late-career renaissance shows zero signs of slowing down.

Suarez was uncharacteristically wild in this one, handing out a season-high four free passes, in addition to hitting a pair of batters, needing a staggering 93 pitches to complete five frames. He finished with four strikeouts and managed to limit Miami’s lineup to just a second-inning sacrifice fly from Otto Lopez. He’s struggled to work deep into starts, pitching into the sixth inning just once in six outings since coming off the injured list on July 26. It hasn’t been a massive issue for the Red Sox since Brayan Bello has been a revelation coming out of the bullpen as a multi-inning weapon. He’ll get the ball against the Yankees in a challenging road tilt to close out a two-start week on Sunday.

Alcantara finished with six strikeouts and only issued one walk. He gave up only six hits with an RBI double by Mickey Gasper in the fifth inning representing the lone tally against him. The 30-year-old workhorse has allowed three earned runs or fewer, while tossing at least six frames, in six consecutive starts dating back to July 28. He’ll wrap up a two-start week with a road matchup against the Nationals on Sunday.

Aranda’s home run was his 16th of the year. He hit a solo shot off Framber Valdez in the sixth inning. Aranda’s home run was his first since August 7 against the Mariners, a span of 15 games where he hit .230 with no power. He’s hitting .280 with a .783 OPS and 78 RBI on the season.
