Blaze Alexander (knee) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Angels.

Alexander takes a seat following an early exit from Monday’s series opener with right knee muscle contusion. It’ll be Coby Mayo at the hot corner in his place. The versatile 27-year-old is day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale.

Max Kepler is not in the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Sunday’s battle against the Rays.

Kepler started the first two games after being activated from the restricted list, but he’ll take a seat against Rays’ right-hander Drew Rasmussen on Sunday. The 33-year-old is hitless in his first five at-bats for the Diamondbacks with one strikeout. Ketel Marte will function as the team’s designated hitter on Sunday with Ildemaro Vargas drawing a start at second base and batting eighth.

Dominic Canzone (hamstring) is not in the Mariners’ lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Guardians in Cleveland.

Canzone has been battling a right hamstring issue, and the Mariners are being careful with his workload to ensure that they don’t aggravate it. Cal Raleigh will function as the Mariners’ designated hitter on Sunday while Mitch Garver draws a start behind the dish and will bat seventh.

Luke Raley was held out of the Mariners’ starting lineup on Sunday afternoon due to elbow discomfort.

It’s an issue that Raley has battled at times throughout the season, and he tweaked it once again on a swing during Saturday’s ballgame. He’s considered day-to-day. Victor Robles will start in his place in right field and bat ninth for the M’s against Gavin Williams and the Guardians.

Spencer Torkelson is not in the Tigers’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Astros.

It appears to be nothing more than a routine day off for the 26-year-old slugger. Torkelson has had a rough time overall at the dish this season, slashing a disappointing .207/.308/.404 with 12 long balls, 32 RBI and a 104/36 K/BB ratio in 319 plate appearances. Colt Keith will cover first base in his absence and will bat second for the Tigers against Astros’ right-hander Hunter Brown on Sunday afternoon.

Jac Caglianone was a late scratch from the Royals’ starting lineup for Sunday’s contest against the White Sox.

No word yet on the reason for the late scratch. Caglianone has been set to start in right field and bat third for the Royals against White Sox’ southpaw Anthony Kay. Kameron Misner will take his place in right field and bat ninth for the Royals.

Jose Altuve (leg) was held out of the Astros’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Tigers at Comerica Park.

Altuve was pulled from Saturday’s game after Zach McKinstry slid into him at second base during the seventh inning. Astros’ skipper Joe Espada told reporters after the game that Altuve was fine, but it sounds like he wants to give the 36-year-old infielder an extra day off just to be on the safe side. Raynel Delgado will start in his place at second base and bat ninth against Jack Flaherty and the Tigers on Sunday.

Cubs designated RHP Vince Velasquez for assignment.

The cycle continues. Velasquez looked sharp in his lone inning of work against the Brewers on Saturday, needing just 12 pitches (seven strikes) to retire all three hitters that he faced in order. He has yet to allow a run and holds a microscopic 0.30 WHIP in 3 1/3 innings with the Cubs this season. It’s possible that he could pique the interest of a pitching-starved club on waivers.

Cubs recalled LHP Jordan Wicks from Triple-A Iowa.

Wicks has been knocked around in his two appearances with the Cubs this season, posting a miserable 15.63 ERA, 2.21 WHIP and a 6/1 K/BB ratio over 6 1/3 innings. Don’t be surprised to see him work multiple innings against the Brewers on Sunday in what’s set up to be a bullpen day for the Cubs.

Rangers activated OF Evan Carter from the 10-day injured list.

On the day that the Rangers lose Wyatt Langford (hamstring) to the injured list, they at least get reinforcements in the return of Carter. The 23-year-old outfielder had been shelved since June 13 due to a right oblique strain. He’ll start in center field and bat seventh against Blue Jays’ right-hander Shane Bieber on Sunday afternoon in Toronto.

Rangers placed OF Wyatt Langford on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.

The dynamic 24-year-old outfielder has had difficulty staying on the field for the Rangers in his young career. This time it’s a hamstring strain that’s going to cause him to miss a couple of weeks. It’s a tough break for fantasy managers as he has been sizzling at the dish with seven homers, 16 RBI and three solen bases in 82 at-bats since June 5. Evan Carter was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Sunday.
