Cubs placed Edward Cabrera on the 15-day injured list with a hamstring strain.

Cabrera injured his hamstring when he accidentally did a split while covering first base on Tuesday night. He looked to be in a lot of pain and had to be removed from the game. The Cubs are sending him for imaging on Wednesday to see how long he will be out for.
Giants' Ramos a 'great option' off waiver wire
James Schiano explores what fantasy managers should make of Heliot Ramos' massive performance on Monday against the Blue Jays, including why he can be a valuable addition off waivers.

There is no timetable yet for Cabrera to return after undergoing an MRI that revealed a rather significant hamstring strain. The 28-year-old starter hit the injured list earlier on Wednesday after suffering the injury during Tuesday night’s start against the Mets. His extended absence is another hit to Chicago’s perilously-thin rotation depth. It sounds like fantasy managers shouldn’t expect him back until some point in August.

Cabrera was on crutches in the clubhouse and will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of a hamstring strain that he suffered while stretching to make a play at first base during Tuesday’s start against the Mets. He was carted off the field afterwards and is likely facing a multi-week absence, which puts additional strain on Chicago’s starting pitching depth.

This didn’t look good at all. Cabrera was carted off the field after suffering a serious-looking left leg injury while covering first base to end the fifth inning. He was charged with two runs over five innings. The 28-year-old’s absence is another hit to Chicago’s rotation depth, which will get a lift when Matthew Boyd comes off the injured list this weekend. There should be an update on Cabrera’s status in the coming days, but he’s likely headed to the injured list.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell told reporters Edward Cabrera will get the ball for his regularly scheduled start on Tuesday with Imanaga being pushed back to Wednesday’s twin bill instead. It’ll be Javier Assad drawing the starting assignment for the other doubleheader contest at Citi Field.

Cabrera checked out fine after making an early exit from Tuesday’s start against the Rockies with a hand cramp. The 28-year-old will need to complete a bullpen session before he’s officially cleared to take the ball against the Mets on Monday in his next start.

Cabrera left the contest with one out in the fifth inning. The positive news is that it wasn’t a recurrence of the blister issue that sent him to the injured list earlier this season. The 28-year-old was charged with three runs over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out three and also issued two walks. There should be an update on his status following the contest and whether he’ll make his next start against the Mets on Monday. It sounds like a relatively minor concern.

Cabrera gave up a couple of homers in Coors, but both were solo shots. He struck out five and walked two. Cabrera’s velocity was again very good; he averaged 96.9 mph with his fastball today, just down from 97.3 mph last Friday in his return from the injured list. In 10 starts before missing time with a blister, Cabrera averaged 95.7 mph, and the only time he was over 96.0 mph previously was when he came in at 96.5 mph in his season debut. Obviously, he’ll be a better bet if the velocity sticks around, though he should be fine either way next week, as he’ll be facing the Rockies outside of Colorado.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #30
Yikes. Cabrera’s velocity was well up from where it was all season and he managed a 31 percent whiff rate, but he allowed eight hard-hit balls, including four off his difference-making change-up. His ERA is now 4.99. Cabrera doesn’t exactly look trustworthy for the moment, and either way you probably have some pause about risking Coors Field with him next week, but nothing under the hood looks dramatically rough.
  • CHC Starting Pitcher #30
He’ll get the ball today against the Giants in Wrigley Field matinee. Cabrera had struggled before heading on IL with his blister injury, allowing three or more earned runs in each of his final four starts before his abbreviated exit from May 20’s game against the Brewers with the blister. Still, he’s talented enough to be a worthwhile roll today against the Giants.

Cabrera resumed throwing last week and will get the ball this weekend against San Francisco after missing just over two weeks with a blister issue. The 28-year-old has struggled to a pedestrian 4.00 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 47/20 K/BB ratio across 54 innings over 10 starts to kick off his Cubs debut. He’s immensely talented and is at least worthy of a speculative roster spot in all fantasy formats based on his sky-high upside if everything clicks into place.

Anthony Volpe is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Rays.

This will make back-to-back games that Volpe will sit with Jose Caballero playing shortstop. The 25-year-old has gotten on base at a respectable .340 clip, but he’s hit just one homer in 2026 and his .668 OPS on the year leaves much to be desired — and is unfortunately right in line with his career .662 number. Volpe has flashed the potential to be an excellent fantasy contributor, but it’s just too hard to trust him to be in lineups at this stage of his career.

Astros optioned RHP Mike Burrows to Triple-A Sugar Land.

Burrows has been going through it, and he was charged for seven earned runs — 10 in total — in a loss Monay to the Astros that saw his ERA increase to an ugly 5.99 over 94 2/3 innings. He’ll head to Triple-A with Alimber Santa getting the call to replace the 26-year-old. Burrows seems likely to be back soon, but it seems pretty obvious he can’t be trusted in fantasy if/when that takes place.

Astros recalled RHP Alimber Santa from Triple-A Sugar Land.

Santa pitched well before his demotion to Triple-A in the middle of June with a 0.71 ERA and 8/5 K/BB over 12 2/3 innings. He’ll be a helper for the bullpen with Mike Burrows heading to Triple-A to make room.

Pirates placed INF Konnor Griffin on the 10-day injured list with a torn tendon in his left ring finger.

Griffin picked up the injury making a diving catch in his previous game. The infielder will be in a splint for six weeks, and then he’ll need another 2-4 weeks before he’s eligible to return. The 20-year-old should be back before the season concludes, but this obviously will limit his fantasy impact substantially. Jared Triolo seems likely to play shortstop with Griffin unavailable.

Ryan Helsley will seek a second opinion on his right elbow in the coming weeks.

Helsley is one of three pitchers seeking second opinions, with Keegan Aiken (elbow) and Colin Selby (shoulder) also visiting with specialists. Helsley was placed back on the injured list with right elbow discomfort over the weekend, and he won’t be eligible to return until after the All-Star break at the earliest. Just how long he’ll actually miss will be determined by how his meeting goes.

Athletics recalled LHP Jacob Lopez from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lopez is getting another shot after struggling mightily prior to his demotion at the end of May. The 28-year-old has shown the ability to miss bats and had relative success in 2025, but fantasy managers should wait and see how Lopez pitches — and what kind of role he’ll pitch in — before even remotely considering the southpaw.

Athletics optioned C Brian Serven to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Serven gets the boot with Jacob Wilson back in action for the A’s after missing a week-plus with a thumb injury. Serven’s demotion seems to imply that Shea Langeliers — who also is dealing with a thumb ailment — should be good to go.

Athletics activated SS Jacob Wilson from the 10-day injured list.

Wilson missed just a smidgen over the minimum 10-day stint while recovering from inflammation in his right thumb. The 24-year-old should be in the lineup everyday — with a break or two here and there — as long as he’s healthy enough to play. That’s been an issue in 2026, however, as injuries have limited the talented shortstop to just 50 games.

Mets designated RHP Guillo Zuñiga for assignment.

Zuñiga gets the boot after the Mets picked up Matt Seelinger in a trade with the Twins. The 27-year-old will now hit the waiver wire, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if teams showed interest via claim or trade. If neither happens, he’ll likely report back to Syracuse.

Mets selected the contract of RHP Matt Seelinger from Triple-A Syracuse.

Seelinger was just acquired Monday in a trade with the Tigers after forging a 3.89 ERA and 49/19 K/BB over 39 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level. He’ll get a chance to help the bullpen with Guillo Zuñiga designated for assignment to make room.
